Are there forms in aikido?
Aikido training is based primarily on two partners practicing pre-arranged forms (kata) rather than freestyle practice.
Does aikido use bo staff?
Yes. Aikido includes kata with the staff and sword, as well as some other weapons in some traditions. İn most schools, the weapons work does not go beyond kata and some schools omit weapons practice entirely but bukiwaza (weapons techniques) do feature on most Aikido curricula.

The bō is typically 3 cm (1.25 inch) thick, sometimes gradually tapering from the middle (chukon-bu) to 2 cm (0.75 inch)at the end (kontei). This thickness allows the user to make a tight fist around it in order to block and counter an attack.
Can you teach yourself bo staff?
If you are training for competition, and will be learning freestyle (modern) bo; then I recommend a white wood lotus bo (toothpick) or a graphite bo. These are lightweight options that will make it very simple for you to practice the basics.
