What is Qurban and Aqiqah?
Both are sunnah, Qurban is done to give thanks for our day to day lives and many more reasons that we should be grateful for. Aqiqah is done to give thanks or gratitude for the birth of a new child.
Can we do Aqiqah in Qurbani?
Performing Aqiqah is the sacrificing of a sheep or goat, to feed those in need upon the birth of a child. WF-AID facilitates Aqiqah, which is carried out on sheep or goats and the meat distributed to needy communities across Tanzania and Kenya.
How is Aqiqah performed?
At the Aqiqah ceremony the parents give thanks to Allah for the gift of the baby. The shaving of the head symbolises the cleansing of the baby from impurities and the start of its life afresh in the presence of Allah. The baby is given a taste of honey to reflect the sweetness of the Qur’an .
How do you do Qurban?
Treat the animal gently The slaughter may be performed in the four days between 10 and 13 Dhu al-Hijjah. Adorn the animal’s body with a simple cloth to signify the importance of its sacrifice. On the day of slaughter, the animal should not see other animals being sacrificed to avoid distressing them.

Qurban is to be offered by those who can afford it and meet other specific requirements; you must be a Muslim of sound mind, mature (have reached puberty), not a traveller, and in possession of 52.5 tolas of silver, or the equivalent in wealth.
When should Aqeeqah be done?
It usually takes place on the seventh day after a baby’s birth. However, there’s nothing wrong with doing it at a later time. The Prophet Muhammad (saw) himself used to perform Aqeeqah after the birth of a newborn to protect the baby and give thanks.
How do you pay on Qurban?
If you perform Qurban with a partner(s), the meat should be shared by weight, not by approximation. You cannot pay the butcher with the meat, fat and by-products of the slaughtered animal. The skin can be kept for personal use, but if it is sold, the amount must be given to the poor.
Who must give Qurban?
Q: Who is obliged to give Qurbani? Qurbani is mandatory for every Muslim who has reached the age of puberty, and who can afford it.
Is Aqiqah a must?
The aqiqah is sunnah and mustahabb; it is not obligatory at all, so there is no sin on the one who does not do it. According to a hadith in Muwatta Imam Malik, Fatima donated, in silver equivalent, the shaved-hair weight of her children Hasan, Husayn, Umm Kulthum and Zaynab.
