How is Dukoral taken?
Open the glass vial from Step 2 and pour the vaccine into the glass containing the powder/water mixture from Step 1. Stir gently with spoon to mix all ingredients. Drink the entire contents of the glass immediately. Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for 1 hour after taking DUKORAL®.
How many doses of Dukoral do I need?
The standard primary course of vaccination with Dukoral against cholera consists of 2 doses for adults and children from 6 years of age. Children 2 to 6 years of age should receive 3 doses. Doses are to be administered at intervals of at least one week.
How do you take Dukoral vaccine?
Take the 1st dose no later than 2 weeks before you leave for your trip. Take the 2nd dose at least 1 week after the 1st dose and at least 1 week before your trip. It takes about 1 week after the last dose for protection to begin. For continuous protection, re-vaccination is recommended within 2 years.
Does Dukoral have side effects?
The most common side effects of DUKORAL® are abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Some people who receive DUKORAL® may feel feverish. Allergic reactions can also occur. Potentially serious side effects include dehydration and shortness of breath; however, these side effects occur very rarely.
Is Dukoral worth taking?
However, if the bacteria causing the diarrhea is not ETEC or is of another cause (virus or parasite as examples), Dukoral won’t be as effective. So this means that while Dukoral can provide a nice layer of protection against traveller’s diarrhea, it will not completely eliminate the risk of getting sick.

Who should not take Dukoral?
Do not give Dukoral® to a child under 2 years of age. There is not enough information to recommend the use of Dukoral® in children under 2 years of age. Do not take Dukoral® after the expiry date printed on the pack. If it has expired, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.
