What is the difference between a Nikon FE and FE2?
My FE is fitted with a 50mm f/1.8 lens, and the FE2 has a 28mm f/3.5 lens mounted. From the front, they are very similar too. Both very nice looking cameras, the FE2 has it’s name label on the front, the FE has no name (but the serial number on the back starts with “FE”). FE2 serial numbers are all numeric.
Which Nikon F2 is the best?
The Nikon F2AS is the newest and best version of the Nikon F2, unless you’re using older non-AI lenses. The F2AS is so good that the used one I bought in 1983 is still worth more than I paid for it. There is no more durable Nikon than the F2AS.

Can you use Nikon FE2 without batteries?
A Nikon FE locked, loaded and ready for anything. Engraved shutter speed dial. Specified for 8 seconds ~ 1/1,000 in manual and auto modes. It actually has a much wider range in Auto mode as explained under Performance. Without batteries, it works at Bulb and 1/90.
